The recently launched campaign supporting Field Marshal Hussein Tantawi, head of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF), for president aims to drive a wedge between the people and the military, presidential hopeful Mohamed Selim al-Awa has said.
“I know that the military council is not fielding candidates in the presidential elections,” he stressed.
The campaign, known as the Egypt Above All Coalition, is led by a lawyer named Mahmoud Atteya.
“The military council must issue a law defining the date for presidential elections before parliamentary elections are held,” Awa also said at a symposium on Sunday. “I would take part in another revolution for that demand if need be.”
The new constitution should be written before both elections, Awa added.
