Presidential hopeful: PM should be removed for supporting constitution before elections

Presidential candidate Mohamed Selim al-Awa has criticized Prime Minister Essam Sharaf for supporting the idea that a new constitution should be written before parliamentary elections.

“This is mere futility,” he said, "and Prime Minister Essam Sharaf should be dismissed for advocating such calls.”

“The majority of the people voted for amending the last constitution,” he added. “Why suddenly talk about a new one?”

He also said the military council has no right to hold a referendum on this issue as it would thereby be violating the will of the majority.
