Farouk Sultan, head of the Presidential Elections Commission, will hold a press conference Wednesday at the Egyptian State Information Service to announce the dates and arrangements relating to the presidential election.
The dates to be announced will include voting dates and the announcement of the winner, Sultan told state-run news service MENA.
Sultan says that the timeline should allow Egyptians living abroad to vote in a timely manner. “We want their participation in deciding the fate of their country to be effective,” he said.
There are eight million Egyptian expatriates, most of whom could not vote in the recent parliamentary elections due to short notice.
The ruling military council of Egypt has pledged to hand over power to an elected civilian authority at the end of June 2012. Candidates can register to run for president between 10 March and 8 April.
