President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi cast his ballot on Wednesday during the final day of runoff elections for the second round of polls for the House of Representatives.
Tight security measures were put in place as Sisi cast his vote at a school in Heliopolis.
Runoff elections were held in 13 governorates, including Cairo. In this round, 426 candidates competed for 213 individual seats. More than 28 million voters registered for the second round.
An alliance of local and international election observers led by the Egypt-based Maat for Peace, Development and Human Rights said voter turnout was remarkably low during the first day of runoffs on Tuesday, standing between 10-12 percent of registered voters. It reported a clear decline in participation by youth, but a steady turnout by women and elders.
