President Sisi stresses importance of containing regional escalation

President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi received a phone call Saturday 7/3/2026 from Nikos Christodoulides, President of the Republic of Cyprus.

The official spokesperson for the Presidency, Ambassador Mohamed al-Shennawy, stated that the call addressed the latest regional developments. President al-Sisi stressed the importance of containing the current escalation in the region, reaffirming Egypt’s consistent position calling for resolving crises through peaceful means and sparing the peoples of the region further tension and instability, in order to safeguard their resources and future.

The President also reaffirmed Egypt’s support for the sovereignty of states and the unity and territorial integrity of their lands, expressing Egypt’s full solidarity with brotherly Arab countries and its categorical rejection of any attacks against them.

He warned of the negative economic repercussions of continued escalation at both the regional and international levels, noting the intensive contacts Egypt is conducting with various parties to contain tension and escalation.

The spokesperson added that the Cypriot President praised Egypt’s efforts to de-escalate tensions, affirming his country’s keenness to continue close consultations with Egypt and exchange views on regional developments and ways to reduce tensions.

In this context, the two presidents stressed the need to adhere to the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip and to implement its second phase, including allowing humanitarian aid to enter without obstacles and accelerating the start of early recovery and reconstruction.

The call also addressed ways to strengthen the distinguished bilateral relations between Egypt and Cyprus, as well as relations between Egypt and the European Union, in light of Cyprus presidency of the Council of the European Union.

The discussion also covered aspects of bilateral cooperation in the fields of energy, trade, and investment, in a way that serves the interests of the two friendly countries and strengthens the existing partnership between them.
