President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi said Egypt is keen on boosting cooperation with Iraq at all levels.
Sisi was speaking during a meeting with Speaker of the Iraqi parliament Mohamed al Halbousi on Sunday. The meeting was attended by Speaker of the House of Representatives Hanafy Gebaly and Iraqi Ambassador in Cairo Ahmed al Dulaimi.
Sisi asked Halbousi to convey his best regards to Iraqi President Adel Latif Rashid and Prime Minister Mohamed Shaiaa al Sudani, said presidential spokesman Ahmed Fahmy.
The president also praised the special relationship between the two Arab countries, Fahmy added.
For his part, Halbousi said his country very much appreciates close ties with Egypt. He greatly appreciated the role played by Cairo to restore stability in Iraq and entrench security, stability and development in the region.
Halbousi also talked about Egypt’s efforts to enhance Arab unity, adding that he is looking forward to further promoting bilateral ties in all fields.
Iraq, he said, could benefit from Egypt’s expertise in developing and building state institutions.
The meeting also took up the latest regional developments, the presidential spokesman said.
