The interim president assigned the National Council for Human Rights (NCHR) Chief Mohamed Fa’eq to represent Egypt at the funeral of the deceased South African leader Nelson Mandela.
A statement by the presidency said Fa’eq had led the ministry of national guidance (1967-1970) and the ministry of information (1970-1971). He was one of main Egyptian officials in contact with African liberation movements from 1953 to 1970. He had offered support from Egypt to leaders of independence and resistance movements in Africa during his years in office.
