Messages sent by President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to presidents of Chad and South Sudan, Mahamat Idriss Deby and Salva Kiir, assert Egypt’s keenness on restoring stability to Sudan, which is integral for upholding the security of the African continent, its neighboring countries as well Egypt’s national security, said former assistant foreign minister Ambassador Mohamed Hegazy.
President Sisi’s messages, also, underscore that restoring Sudan’s stability is directly linked to maintaining the security of the Red Sea and the Gulf, ambassador Hegazy said in statements to MENA on Tuesday.
Egypt’s messages call for orchestrated regional and international efforts toward persuading the warring Sudanese parties to adhere to the ceasefire and contribute to the success of the underway talks between the Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Saudi Arabia, Hegazy said.
The ambassador highlighted Egypt’s ongoing high-level contacts with Sudan’s neighbors with a view to finding a solution to the crisis, noting that any disturbances in Sudan could harm its seven neighboring countries, in one of the key strategic areas in the African continent.
Restoring stability to Sudan is a pressing issue for the interest of the neighboring countries and the region as well global peace and security, the ambassador added.
Only reaching a consensus among Sudan’s warring sides can solve the crisis alongside commitment to defending state’s institutions and the national army, Hegazy noted.
On Monday, president Sisi sent messages to his Chadian and South Sudanese counterparts on upholding consultation and coordination regarding the evolving situation in Sudan.
The messages tackled the role of Chad and South Sudan as well other neighbors in supporting the ceasefire efforts and dealing with the humanitarian crisis facing the Sudanese people.
