Dr. Mervat Mohamed Talaat, a specialist in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Luxor General Hospital, put her own health at risk when she insisted on completing a cesarean surgery while being pregnant herself.
Talaat was performing the surgery on a woman in the hospital, when she miscarried her fetus.
The OBGYN was in a state of fatigue and suffered severe hemorrhaging while operating. However, she insisted on making sure that her patient and the newborn were fine before she left another doctor to finalize the surgery, sources said.
Talaat was then transferred to another room in the hospital where she received treatment for her miscarriage.
Governor Mohamed Badr praised the doctor’s attitude and will hold a ceremony to honor her dedication to her work and role in raising the noble message of medicine.
Chairman of the Luxor Doctors Syndicate Ahmed Hamza said the syndicate would honor Talaat as well for her selflessness.
