As power cuts continue in Alexandria, residents fear summer

The power outage crisis resumed in Alexandria on Tuesday as many parts of the city saw frequent electricity cuts throughout the day.

Locals expressed fears about increasing outages in summer, in light of absent solutions by the government regarding the electricity crisis.

Mahmoud Ramadan, employee from Janaklees, east of Alexandria, told Al-Masry Al-Youm that the frequent cuts during good weather indicates a catastrophe that could happen over the coming days, especially as summer nears.

“If we suffer a crisis in winter, how will the government face it in summer?” he asked.

Nagy Hussein, from Al-Qabbary area, west of the city, slammed the ongoing remarks by the government over the outages in summer. “The government has been reassuring us through media, but the fact contradicts the remarks and confirms we still have a real problem.”

Fouad al-Gammal, a trader in Mansheyya district, said all the store owners were forced to buy electricity generators due to the long intervals of the daily power outages.

Meanwhile, an informed source from Alexandria Electricity Distribution Company blamed the overload on the network on illegal subscriptions and irrational consumption of electricity.

“No stepping back from the plan to reduce the daily loads on the electricity networks, as long as the load increases,” he added.
