The military govenor of Port Said has been given permission to testify Sunday in the case of violence at a Feburary Port Said football match in which 74 died.
Major General Adel Morsy, head of the military judiciary, said that Major General Adel Ghadban, the military governor of Port Said, was given the permission to testify for the case before Port Said Criminal Court. The court will be held at the Police Academy in the Fifth Settlement, New Cairo, and heard by Judge Sobhy Abdel Meguid.
Morsy said Ghadban should give his testimony in Sunday's session. Ghadban has been absent the four previous times he has been called to testify in the Port Said Criminal Court.
The victims' defense team also requested that Interior Minister Mohamed Ibrahim testify about the incident.
The lawyers of the police officers being tried over the incident recently refused to defend them in the court. The Lawyers Syndicate ordered its members to stop working on behalf of police officers, after recent Nasr City clashes between lawyers and police in which 14 lawyers and police personnel were injured.
