The Popular Current rejected the forensic report on the death of party activist Mohamed al-Gendy, describing it as "fake."
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the party condemned the report for saying Gendy was killed in a car crash. The current contend Gendy was tortured by police only to die later from his injuries in hospital earlier this month.
"The only job of forensic medicine is to register the injuries in a professional way rather than mentioning the cause of death, which should be left to the Public Prosecution and criminal investigators."
Emad Eddin, assistant medical examiner, said on Tuesday that Gendy had died in a car accident and told MENA that the autopsy ruled out torture.
According to the statement, the Popular Current asked specialized independent doctors to examine Gendy while he was in the hospital before his death. The doctors later reported that there were marks on Gendy's neck indicating someone had attempted to hang him and that he had suffered electric shocks to his tongue.
The statement also said he had 9-centimeter cut along his brain stem that could not have been caused by a car accident. The statement said that a detailed report on this examination will be released later.
The current cited eyewitnesses who told the Public Prosecution that Gendy had been subject to extreme torture after disappearing at the end of January following protests.
Eyewitnesses added that Gendy had been taken to the Central Security Forces Camp in Gabal al-Ahmar.
According to the current, the Justice Ministry's claims Gendy had died in a car crash two days before the medical examiner's report was issued prove the report was fabricated.
