The Popular Current launched on Monday an initiative to monitor violations committed by security forces against Egyptian citizens.
The new system would allow violations to be reported to the presidency and relevant authorities for further investigation and, in theory, bring those responsible to justice.
The group called on citizens to send complaints to a special email address, violations.tayar[at]gmail.com, to report “any violations against Egyptians, through current security practices.”
Those complaining provide details of any violations as part of their report.
The Popular Current, founded by leading Nasserist and former presidential candidate Hamdeen Sabbahi, aims to create a complete profile of all incidents involving the security forces.
The initiative comes after recent meetings between the Popular Current and the presidency.
