Pope Shenouda welcomes dialogue with Al-Azhar and Salafis

Pope Shenouda III, the Coptic Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of St. Mark, met on Monday with Minister of Local Development Mohsen al-Nomani at the Papal Headquarters in Abassiya to discuss the latest developments on the political scene in Egypt.

Shenouda said a number of important topics were discussed during the meeting, including the suggestion of engaging in a community dialogue with various religious movements, namely the Coptic Church, Al-Azhar, the Salafi movement and other public figures.

The proposed dialogue would be held under the auspices of Vice Prime Minister Yehia al-Gamal and would roam the various governorates to help build a platform for constructive and purposeful interaction, which would ultimately benefit the country.

Shenouda said he welcomed the suggestion.
