Egypt’s Coptic Orthodox Pope has said he will halt his weekly Wednesday sermon until 2018 when renovations at the hall where he delivers the weekly speech are completed.
Tawadros II said renovations at the Coptic Orthodox Cathederal in Abbasseya, Cairo, come as part of celebrations for the the 50th anniversary of its inauguration in 2018.
“Last January, we announced a competition for icon painters to celebrate the Cathedral's golden jubilee,” Tawadros II said, adding that a clerical panel had selected winners from 59 artists who had applied for the competition.
