Pope Francis of the Vatican has expressed his deep sorrow over the deadly attack on an army facility in North Sinai last Thursday which left at least 27 army personnel dead.
The Catholic pope offered condolences to the Egyptian people, stressing he prays for the dead and the injured.
Francis urged Egypt’s presidency, army and police to proceed with the country’s political track.
The attack, among the deadliest against security forces in the restive peninsula since the ouster of former president Mohamed Morsy, was claimed by the Province of Sinai, a group claiming to be the Egyptian branch of the Islamic State.
