Islamic and secular political parties have continued to exploit children while campaigning for the third phase of the parliamentary elections, the Egyptian Association for the Assistance of Juveniles has said.
Organization volunteers have detected that the Muslim Brotherhood’s Freedom and Justice Party is using children to distribute leaflets at polling stations in Northern Sinai.
The high elections commission prohibits campaigning on voting days, while the Egyptian Children’s Law and other laws against human trafficking, prohibit the abuse of children for political or commercial activity.
The organization also said that the Wafd and Egyptian Block parties used children to campaign in Matrouh, while the Nour Party used them in Qena.
According to media reports, using children for electoral campaigning is commonplace. Children with poor families are being pressured into distributing pamphlets to earn cash.
