Cairo Criminal Court on Wednesday adjourned the retrial of policeman Mohamed Ibrahim, known as Mohamed al-Sunni, who is accused of killing protesters during last year's uprising.
The court adjourned the trial to 17 April to allow time to meet the defense's requests. The judge ruled that Sunni will remain in custody until then.
Sunni, a policeman from the Zawya Hamra station, turned himself in Sunday at the Cairo Security Department, and his retrial started Wednesday.
He is appealing two death sentences, life imprisonment and a 10-year prison term that he received in earlier verdicts when he was convicted of killing 20 protesters and attempting to kill more than 20 others on 28 January.
He is the only police officer to be sentenced for killing protesters during the 18-day uprising that eventually led to the resignation of former President Hosni Mubarak.
Sunni has described himself as a "scapegoat" for the authorities.
His lawyer claimed in an interview with Al-Ahram newspaper in 2011 that he was not provided with live bullets that day, and that the killing was mainly carried out by snipers on the police station roof.
