A policeman was shot and wounded in Sharqiya late Sunday.
State-run newspaper Al-Gomhurriya said the officer was driving home when masked attackers shot at him and then escaped. He was injured in the arm and later hospitalized.
Egypt has seen recurrent attacks against army and police forces which killed hundreds of personnel since the ouster of the Muslim Brotherhood’s government in 2013. Egypt accuses the outlawed Brotherhood of masterminding most of the attacks.
