Sohag Prosecution has referred a police colonel to trial for embezzling a stock of confiscated weapons, which had been entrusted to him in 2009.
Investigators have found that Hatem Abdel Qader, a police officer assigned for guarding the stock of confiscated weapons at al-Manshaa police department, was behind the disappearance of 38 weapons seized in 2012.
A panel formed by the Sohag Security Department found last October that some weapons were missing from the arms stock, together with registry pages listing its contents.
In February, the panel, assisted by licensed arms traders, valued the stolen weapons at LE99.200, which the officer was obliged to pay back.
