Three persons with criminal records kidnapped a policeman on the Cairo-Fayoum road while he was checking their car on Wednesday. Another policeman was able to rescue him three kilometers away.
First Lieutenant Walid al-Welily was inspecting vehicles coming from Cairo and heading to Fayoum. A truck without a license plate stopped at the checkpoint, and Welily stopped it for inspection. The kidnappers then drove away at high speed. Major Mohamed Meshref was passing at the same time. He followed the kidnappers for three kilometers and fired shots in the air until they surrendered.
The kidnappers were revealed to have been stealing electricity cables on the Cairo-Fayoum road.
