Security forces raided the office of the Iranian Alalam News outlet in Cairo Sunday and confiscated all of its equipment, according to the media outlet's director. The forces said the network has no license to operate in Egypt.
“It was exactly like what happened to Al Jazeera Mubasher [Misr],” said director Ahmed Sioufi, adding that he would soon hold a press conference to explain what happened.
“We will show our license applications that the Egyptian authorities declined to approve over and over again,” he said.
Sioufi and his staff immediately went on hunger strike to protest the raid.
Egypt has not had diplomatic relations with the Islamic Republic for over 30 years.
