Damanhur criminal court sentenced a police officer to five years in prison over beating to death a detainee at a police station. Two other policemen were acquitted in the same case.
The incident took place in May 2015. Head of Beheira Security Directorate Mohamed Emad Eddin received a notification from Rashid Police Station informing him of the death of al-Sayyed al-Kasbary, 32, after he was transferred to the hospital.
Kasbary was detained pending investigation over allegations of possessing a weapon without license.
The family of the deceased filled a claim against first lieutenant M.A., 24, accusing him of beating Kasbary to death.
