The Interior Ministry said that Lieutenant Rami Mohamed al-Gangihy of the northern Sinai Central Security was shot in the neck by smugglers in Rafah on Thursday and died in hospital. He was among the forces securing the international border mark No. 17.
The smugglers also wounded Islam Mansour and Hammad Abdel Moati, two conscripts of the force who were shot in the hand.
The minister ordered utmost care for the family of the officer and for the recruits, and vowed to continue fighting crime to restore security and stability.
