A police captain was shot dead by masked gunmen outside his residence in Arish, North Sinai, late on Saturday, the Interior Ministry’s media office said.
Attacks mainly claimed by Islamic State-affiliates have killed hundreds of security personnel in Sinai Peninsula since the ouster of former president Mohamed Morsi in 2013.
The government has imposed a partial curfew in several parts of the province since October 2014.
