Police officer and security guard shot by unidentified assailants in Qena

A police officer and a low-ranking security guard were shot by unidentified gunmen in the early hours of Friday morning while a security force was combing the desert road in Haj-Salam village in Farshout district, Qena.

Major General Magdy al-Qadi, head of the Qena Security Directorate, received a notification that Major Ahmed Salah Mahmoud, 34, a police officer, and Mohamed Helmy Abu al-Ela, 50, a security guard, of the Farshout police force, were shot and wounded by unidentified gunmen while searching the desert road.

The injured were transferred to Farshout Central Hospital while the Farshout Investigation Unit intensified its efforts to uncover the circumstances of the incident and arrest the defendants.

A claim was filed on the incident and the Public Prosecution was notified. The Public Prosecution will take over the investigation.
