Police forces kill 4 terrorists in North Sinai checkpoint attack

Police forces on Saturday morning engaged with a terrorist group who tried to attack a security checkpoint on the coastal road of al-Arish, North Sinai, successfully killing four of them.

An informed source said that the police had succeeded in thwarting the attack and responded against them, despite the terrorists’s use of heavy weapons such RPGs. The forces had eliminated four of them while the rest escaped.

He added that the security forces found 10 explosive devices next to the checkpoint, four automatic weapons, 30 ammunition magazines, an RPG, three explosive belts, a camera, and grenades.

Egyptian Armed Forces have launched the “Comprehensive Operation Sinai 2018” campaign in February to counter the increasing terrorist threat from North Sinai.

Since 2014, the region had witnessed a growing number of terrorist attacks carried out by IS and its affiliated group the Sinai Province, such as various attacks against the army and police.

In retaliation, North Sinai-based state security carried out large-scale security sweeps and military operations.
