Police foil attempt to storm Kerdasa police station

Several skirmishes between members of Islamic movements and police officers occurred on Tuesday morning.

Islamists accused the police of failing to secure the guidance bureau in Moqattam. Three officers were reportedly assaulted and their cars broken, while security forces foiled an attempt to storm the Kerdasa Police Station.
 
Interior Minister Mohamed Ibrahim called on his aides to lift the state of emergency and file complaints against those who assail state institutions or the police.
 
On Monday, dozens of members of the Muslim Brotherhood besieged the Kerdasa police station in Giza, expressing anger at the police for joining the anti-Morsy protesters and for failing to establish security. Security forces negotiated with the protesters, after which the Islamists left the station.
 
Dozens of Morsy's opponents attempted to storm the Freedom and Justice Party headquarters in 6 October City, smashing its door.
 
Security forces intensified their presence around the Media Production City in anticipation of pro-Morsy marches.
 
6 October City witnessed clashes Tuesday between pro- and anti-Morsy protesters who were throwing stones at each other. The security forces separated the sides.
 
Hundreds of anti-Morsy protesters staged a demonstration in al-Hosary Square in 6 October City, calling on the president to step down. His supporters staged another protest, leading to clashes. His supporters reportedly switched off lamp poles to prevent a sit-in by the anti-Morsy protesters.
 
No injuries were reported.
 
A security source from the Cairo Security Directorate said that police were ready to counter any acts of violence, whether against individuals or state institutions. The source stressed that the police had carried out their duty perfectly and had remained neutral toward different political movements from the 25 January revolution to the 30 June protests.
