Egyptian police have found the car of the leader of the Freedom and Justice Party, the Muslim Brotherhood's political arm, Mohamed al-Beltagui, which was stolen when he was assaulted last week.
The Qalyubiya Security Directorate received information that someone in Qalyubiya had been talking about selling a car that had same description as Beltagui's.
A security source said that Abdel Gawad Mohamed Abdel Gawad, a fugitive prisoner who escaped from Damanhour prison during the 25 January revolution, was among those who attacked Beltagui on 19 August, added that police have since stepped up their efforts to catch him.
Four gunmen on Friday intercepted Beltagui's car on the highway near the city of Qalyub, 45km north of Cairo, stealing his car and belongings at gunpoint.
Political groups have accused elements from the dissolved State Security Investigation Services of being behind the kidnappings and beatings of a number of political activists over the last ten days.
Another Freedom and Justice Party leader, Ahmed Abu Baraka, was assaulted last Tuesday. In addition, liberal political activist Amr Hamzawy's car and personal belongings were stolen at gunpoint last week.
Mohamed ElBaradei's presidential campaign also said that one of its activists was kidnapped last Saturday in the city of Alexandria.
