Police arrest company official responsible for gas pipeline explosion in Giza

Police forces at the Giza Security Directorate on Friday arrested the executive officer of the company responsible for construction work that caused the explosion of a gas pipeline on the Al-Wahat Road in 6th of October City.

The incident, which occurred late April, resulted in the deaths and injuries of several people, and the charring of several cars.

Legal actions have been taken against the person involved, and the competent Public Prosecution office has begun an investigation.

The Giza branch of the Engineers Syndicate said that, as part of its advisory role, it has dispatched a committee in Giza and conducted an urgent field visit to the site of the gas pipeline explosion on Wednesday.

The syndicate explained that the inspections and witness testimonies revealed that a contractor, while digging with a bulldozer, ruptured the gas pipeline and back-filled without notifying the relevant authorities, resulting in a massive gas leak.

The next morning, during further work in the area, the strong odor of a gas leak was detected without any action to report it.

This leak—due to the saturation of the air with gas, high temperatures, and heavy traffic—caused a fire and led to massive blazes that claimed the lives of several citizens and seriously injured others.

The committee also found a complete absence of any warning signs or signals indicating the presence of a gas pipeline or the nature of the work being carried out at the site.

The union confirmed that it will prepare a comprehensive technical report on the visit and any clear violations observed.

It will be submitted and all relevant ministries and authorities will be contacted to take the necessary legal and technical measures to hold those responsible accountable and prevent a recurrence of such an incident.
