Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly highlighted the significant role of Egypt’s textile industry in supporting economic growth, noting that a national strategy is in place for its development, with regular follow-up to ensure implementation of this strategic project.
This came during a meeting on Tuesday with Minister of Public Business Sector Mohamed Shimi to review the latest updates on the national project to modernize the textile industry, in the presence of Chairman of Orascom Construction Osama Bishai.
Madbouly noted that President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has issued clear directives to continue advancing this sector as part of Egypt’s broader development agenda. The goal is to maximize the country’s inherent potential in textile production, thereby boosting the national economy, particularly as it is a labor-intensive industry, he said.
The premier pointed out that the meeting today reflects ongoing oversight of the development work being carried out by multiple companies, aiming to identify and overcome challenges to ensure timely completion of the government’s project to develop the textile sector.
Minister Shimi stressed the strategic importance of this project, which is central to Egypt’s vision for modernizing national industries. He said the project aims to enhance local production and improve the efficiency of companies affiliated with his ministry, describing this as a top priority and a key driver for transformation within the sector.
He added that the sector’s modernization programs are progressing steadily and form an essential part of the ministry’s broader plan to revitalize all public sector companies. The focus is on improving performance and increasing competitiveness, according to him.
Shimi also highlighted the ministry’s 2024–2027 strategy, which aims to maximize returns on state investments in public sector companies, making them stronger contributors to the national economy and more competitive at both the local and international levels.
Concluding the meeting, the the prime minister urged that all development projects be completed within the agreed timelines, given their vital importance in supporting and revitalizing Egypt’s textile sector.
