CAIRO, Sept 18 (MENA) – Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to expanding cooperation with Spain.
During his meeting with King Felipe VI at the Cabinet headquarters in Cairo, Madbouly welcomed the Spanish monarch on his official visit and praised Spain’s consistent position on the Palestinian issue.
He reiterated the country’s rejection of any attempt to displace Palestinians and confirmed support for a two-state solution based on the June 4, 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as the capital of an independent Palestinian state.
The visit follows President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi’s trip to Spain in February, which resulted in upgrading bilateral ties to a strategic partnership and signing multiple memoranda in trade, tourism, industry, transportation, and migration.
The premier stated that Egypt aims to build on this progress by encouraging Spanish investment, especially in infrastructure, transport, renewable energy, and green hydrogen.
He pointed to major developments in Egypt’s infrastructure, including roads, ports, and industrial zones, such as the Suez Canal Economic Zone, which offers access to regional markets through Egypt’s free trade agreements. Spanish companies were invited to explore opportunities in those sectors, with current Spanish investments in Egypt totaling €882.93 million as of July 2024.
The prime minister underlined the potential for broader cooperation in tourism, citing Spain’s global standing in the industry, and expressed interest in increasing tourist flows through new agreements. He stressed the importance of boosting bilateral trade and noted the benefits of direct maritime routes and geographic proximity between the two countries.
Additionally, Madbouly invited King Felipe VI, along with the Spanish prime minister and senior officials, to attend the opening ceremony of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) in November. (MENA)
