Egypt’s presidency is eager to hold the postponed parliamentary elections as soon as possible, Prime Minister Ibrahim Mehleb said Thursday.
The state is proceeding towards holding the elections, Mehleb said in a meeting with political party leaders held as the first session of a public debate on election law amendments.
“What had happened was a delay that was out of everybody's hands,” he said.
Last month, Mehleb said that elections would be held in May or June.
The Supreme Constitutional Court had ruled that some clauses in the laws regulating the process were unconstitutional.
The elections were initially slated for 22 March and were to unfold in two phases extending through early May.
President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi had asked for the review of the annulled law to be completed in a month after the court ruling.
