PM inspects progress of establishing Warraq Urban community

CAIRO, July 28 (MENA) – Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly urged accelerating the disbursement of compensation for households effected by setting up a new urban community in Warraq Island alongside meeting the timetables set for the evacuation of homes and lands in the area.

The premier instructed continuing the development projects to achieve a remarkable leap in services provided on the island and decisively confronting any attempts of building violations.

Madbouli made the remarks during a meeting held to follow up on developments of the urban community in Warraq Island, in the presence of Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities Sherif al-Sherbiny and a galaxy of statesmen.

Sherbiny reviewed progress achieved in evacuation operations of homes and lands in Warraq Island between June 24 – July 28.

The minister reviewed the number of the evacuated homes and lands, noting that 993 feddans have been evacuated out of 1,295 feddans, recording an evacuation rate of 76 percent of the total targeted area.

In 2020, the government started development work on the 1,295 feddan-island, which lies in northern Egypt between Cairo and Giza and is reportedly home to 90,000 people, as part of plans to develop dangerous areas and slums, stop encroachments on the banks of the Nile, and end unplanned construction.
