Prime Minister Ibrahim Mehleb held a meeting on Sunday to follow up on Sinai development projects.
Attendees included the water resources and irrigation, planning, finance and agriculture ministers, the South and North Sinai and Port Said governors, the head of the Sinai Development Authority, as well as representatives from other ministries and government bodies
Egypt plans to reclaim and cultivate 620,000 acres of land, establish new communities and connect Sinai to the Delta region so as to make them a natural extension of the Nile valley.
The reclamation of 220,000 out of the 620,000 acres west of the Suez Canal area, has already concluded, along with the completion of 12 water pump stations estimated at over LE498 million.
Work started on public irrigation networks that would irrigate 156,500 acres as part of the project.
The Electricity Ministry announced that the power supply for the development of Sinai amounted to LE551,884,000 to date.
