Prime Minister Ibrahim Mehleb said that the governors’ reshuffle will be announced before the end of January and that consultations with candidates are still ongoing.
He said the fact that some have declined the assignment would not make him compromise on qualification.
A Cabinet source said that Mehleb briefed President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi of the nominated candidates and of the reports he received about them from the Administrative Control Authority.
The source also said that certain governorates have more than one candidate to choose from, adding that some are in their forties and others were chosen for their excellent record in the government.
It said candidates for Sinai, Aswan and Assiut would be chosen from the police and the army.
It said that it is still undecided if Cabinet Secretary General Amr Abdel Moneim would be nominated for Ismailia, adding that he would in that case be the second senior Cabinet official to become governor after Mohamed Naeem, the governor of Gharbiya.
