Prime Minister Kamal al-Ganzouri on Tuesday will go to his office on Qasr al-Aini Street in downtown Cairo for the first time after protesters blocked him from entering his office for 54 days.
Since his appointment in November, Ganzouri held ministerial meetings at the General Authority for Investment in Nasr City.
A cabinet official said Ganzouri will head to the People’s Assembly Tuesday to discuss the issue of martyrs and those injured in the revolution, after the government said it has issued all compensation checks for victims and their families. The prime minister will go to his office afterward, the source said.
Al-Shorouk newspaper on Monday quoted anonymous government sources as saying that security and traffic plans are in place to make sure Ganzouri gets to his office easily.
The same sources said Ganzouri might return to his office at the General Investment Authority if protests renew.
Revolutionary groups had rejected the appointment of Ganzouri, who succeeded former Prime Minister Essam Sharaf. They said Sharaf did not have enough power, and that Ganzouri is a figure from the former regime.
Protesters held a sit-in outside the cabinet building for weeks before military forces violently dispersed it on 16 December. At least 17 people were killed by the military during the clashes.
