Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly asserted the Egyptian State has been exerting strenuous efforts to play host to the 12th edition of the World Urban Forum (WUF) following holding a successful UN Climate Change Conference or COP27 last year.

Egypt has got a greater experience and boosted its confidence following hosting COP27, this global giant and important event, to hold the WUF’s new version in cooperation with UN-Habitat, added Madbouly.

A statement by the cabinet’s media center said that the premier’s remarks came at a meeting with Maimunah Sharif, the Executive Director of the United Nations Human Settlements Program (UN‐Habitat) Sunday.

Madbouly affirmed the Egyptian government is appreciating the visit of the delegation of UN-Habitat to officially announce jump-starting executive measures for hosting the event by Egypt.

A higher committee was established and is chaired by the premier to organize the convocation of this edition of the Forum.

The foreign minister will chair the Forum and the housing and local development ministers will be in charge of organizing the WUF as far as technical matters are concerned in coordination with UN-Habitat.

In turn, Sharif greeted Egypt for hosting the Forum, saying a working team is now in Cairo to cooperate with the government to render the event a success and promote for it worldwide.

The goal of the 12th WUF will be to build upon the outcome of both the former World Forums as well as the COP27 that took place in Sharm El Sheikh in 2022.

The Egyptian government looks to use the opportunity to highlight developing countries’ plans and achievements in the field of urban development in line with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.

Established in 2001, the WUF tackles sustainable urbanization across the globe.
