CAIRO, Oct 11 (MENA) – Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation Rania Al-Mashat discussed ways to enhance bilateral relations with Romanian Foreign Minister Luminiţa Odobescu, in preparation for the Romanian top diplomat visit to Egypt later in October.

The meeting was held Friday on the sidelines of the 4th session of the Joint Committee for Economic, Technical, and Scientific Cooperation between Romania and Egypt, in the Romanian capital Bucharest.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation, the meeting featured comprehensive discussions on various areas of cooperation.

Both sides discussed areas of mutual interest and emphasized the importance of increasing investments, particularly in light of the opportunities available for foreign companies in Egypt, especially in the Suez Canal Economic Zone.

Mashat emphasized Egypt’s interest in enhancing economic relations with Romania, highlighting the extensive efforts made by the government to develop international economic partnerships.

She also referred to the launch of Egypt’s strategy to enhance South-South cooperation and triangular cooperation in 2023, reflecting Egypt’s commitment to playing a more active role in promoting knowledge exchange among southern countries and leveraging successful development experiences with development partners.

Mashat highlighted the Suez Canal Economic Zone, a result of Egypt’s efforts over the past decade to develop sustainable infrastructure and leverage its strategic location to connect Asia and Africa, using this advantage to attract foreign direct investments, localize industries, and encourage exports from the zone as a global logistics hub.

For her part, Odobescu stressed the importance of addressing ongoing crises in the regions both countries belong to through an integrated approach, reaffirming Romania’s support for deepening the strategic and comprehensive partnership between the EU and Egypt. (MENA)
