Planning Minister participates in launching Global Alliance against Hunger, Poverty in Brazil

Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation Rania al-Mashat has participated in launching the Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty proposed by Brazil’s G20 presidency and announced by Brazilian President Luíz Inácio Lula da Silva in the G20 Summit in New Delhi, India, according to a statement released by the planning ministry on Friday 26/7/2024.

Mashat said the launch of the Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty will enhance countries’ capacity to implement sustainable policies to offer services to the lowest-income groups in light of the successive challenges facing a large number of states that have undermined their ability to achieve food security and provide social protection for their citizens.

The minister stated that the world has experienced serious and complex challenges, citing the coronavirus pandemic, the Russian-Ukrainian war, and geopolitical tensions, in addition to the disruption in supply chains and rising prices.

Mashat noted that achieving the alliance’s goals would contribute to mobilizing financial resources for countries that are unable to provide the necessary financing for food security and social protection programs.
