Physically challenged continue protest before parliament

People with special needs maintained their sit-in before the parliament building in downtown Cairo for the 20th consecutive day on Sunday. Protesters demanded jobs in accordance with the law, which stipulates that five percent of all job vacancies in both public- and private-sector companies be given to the physically challenged.

They also demand that the government provide them with residential units in public housing projects, along with official permits to start small businesses such as street kiosks.

Demonstrators say their representatives in parliament ignore them while "driving past us in their luxurious cars every day," as one protester put it.

If their demands go unmet, say protesters, they will stage additional demonstrations before Cairo’s provincial headquarters in an effort to increase pressure on the government.
