Photos: Tragedy at Giza Ring Road as dozens injured in 34-vehicle crash

A massive traffic accident in Giza early on Wednesday left over 24 people injured after 34 vehicles, including private cars and trucks, collided on the ring road near the shooting range in Giza.

One person remains in critical condition.

Investigations concluded the cause was a truck driver speeding recklessly and unable to brake, causing him to collide with several vehicles. Three other truck drivers, one of whom was carrying a load of sand in his truck, then arrived collided with other vehicles.

The four drivers responsible for the accident were arrested and referred to the public prosecution, which requested that they be presented to the forensic medicine authority for their blood samples to be analyzed to determine if they had consumed any narcotic substances.

According to competent sources, the results proved negative.

Upon examining the scene of the accident, it was found that the seized vehicles were severely damaged.

They were parked on a side road until they were removed from the location, after an engineering expert had finished inspecting them to determine the cause of the collision and the condition of the vehicles’ brakes.

A team from the prosecution went to the scene of the accident and requested that surveillance cameras in the surrounding area, if any, be preserved.

Another team went to Haram and Sheikh Zayed Specialized Hospitals to take statements from the injured.
