Photos: Egypt’s Jewish community celebrates New Year for 1st time in 70 years

The Jewish community in Egypt organized a celebration for the Jewish New Year in the Vitali Madjar Synagogue in Heliopolis, for the first time in 70 years.

The community’s official Facebook page, “JCC Cairo” shared images of the celebration.

The head of the Jewish community in Egypt, Magda Haroun, was present. She is the daughter of leftist lawyer and politician Shehata Haroun, one of the founders of the Tagammu Party in Egypt.

Shehata Haroun opposed Zionism and rejected the establishment of Israel.
