Thousands of Egyptians took to the streets and squares across Egypt on Wednesday night to celebrate the overthrow of deposed Muslim Brotherhood president, Mohamed Morsy.
The ouster was implied in the statement delivered last night by Defence Minister General Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, following meetings with political and religious leaders.
Revellers fired fireworks into the air and waved Egyptian flags and pictures of the defence minister, amassing marches in the streets.
Sisi's statement called for conducting early presidential elections, declaring Supreme Constitutional Court chief Adly Mansour as interim president and suspending the current constitution drafted under the Muslim Brotherhood administration.
