The Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Amr Talaat on Saturday inaugurated the historic Cairo post office at Ataba, following restoration work done through an innovative vision to preserve its historical value and the original architectural design of the building.
The building is also equipped with the latest technological systems and solutions to provide all financial, postal, government and digital services to citizens.
Talaat explained that the Egyptian Post is a long-standing institution with a history of more than 150 years, which makes it owns many antique offices, some of which date back to 1870.
He said that that the opening of the historic Cairo main post office at Ataba comes within the framework of his ministry’s vision to modernize post offices of historical nature, while preserving their architectural heritage and Egyptian identity.
Cairo’s main post office in Ataba is located on an area of 1220 square meters, and contains 32 customer service counters, in addition to a room for VIP customers with three windows, and a counter for people with special needs.
The office is equipped with three ATMs working 24 hours a day for customers, and the office is equipped with seven screens for citizens to follow up on customer queues inside the office.
The office operates from Saturday to Thursday from 8 am to 9 pm.
The office was developed by removing many of the new construction materials in the building that damaged the original structure, thus preferring its authentic architectural style.
Attention was also paid to the passage of ventilation and natural lighting inside the office, in addition to providing high-quality furniture for Egypt Post employees and customers in line with the heritage of the office.
More windows were added to provide all services with ease, alongside providing waiting places for citizens.
The Chairman of the Egypt Post Board of Directors Sherif Farouk indicated that the post’s historical offices and buildings have been identified, and an integrated plan has been prepared to develop them to preserve their identity using the latest sustainability methods.
