Brazilian President Lula da Silva and his wife, Ganga da Silva toured the Giza Pyramids, Sphinx and the Grand Egyptian Museum during their visit to Egypt, accompanied by former Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Khaled Anani.
The Brazilian President’s visit coincides with the 100th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Brazil and Egypt, currently Brazil’s second largest trading partner in Africa.
This is the second official visit by the Brazilian president to the African continent during his third term in office.
Last August, Lula visited three other countries: South Africa, Angola, and São Tomé and Príncipe.
Lula’s visit to Egypt indicates Brazil’s growing interest in Africa.
The two countries have a strong economic relationship and are cooperating on several issues, including trade, investment, and energy.
