In a statement issued on Thursday, the Egyptian Pharmacists Syndicate rejected proposals to raise prices of imported drugs and medicines but approved increases in the price of their locally produced counterparts.
The syndicate justified the move by noting that local pharmaceutical companies often suffered financial losses due to government pricing policies on certain medicines.
The syndicate went on to warn against the privatization of yet more public-sector pharmaceutical companies, saying this could serve to jeopardize market equilibrium.
