Petroleum, tech academy protocol targets improvement to chemical industry

The ministries of higher education and petroleum signed a cooperation agreement on Tuesday between the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology and the Egyptian Petrochemicals Holding Company designed to tap into scientific research that will improve the petrochemical industry.

Petroleum Minister Tarek el-Molla said the agreement involves cooperation on boosting petrochemical research, as well as the production of alternative fuels from agricultural and solid waste.

Academy dean Mahmoud Saqr said the protocol was part of the academy’s strategy to employ research results to cater to the needs of the Egyptian petrochemical industry.

He said the academy is already contributing to three “national projects” in collaboration with the Petroleum Ministry for the production of soluble urea and styrene derivatives for paint production.
