Petroleum Ministry: Huge oil storage facilities, with capacity of 400,000 tons, at Elhamra Terminal

The Western Sahara Petroleum Company (WEPCO), the Managing of al-Hamra Terminal and Oil Pipelines, said that the first phase of storage facilities, with a capacity of 130,000 tons of petroleum products, is being completed and includes eight facilities for storing diesel, gasoline and aviation fuel.

The first phase also includes establishing a charging stations for fuel transport vehicles, so that the final capacity of the area with the completion of its stages will reach 400,000 tons of petroleum products and 9 million barrels of crude oil, the Petroleum Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.

In the statement, Petroleum Minister Tarek al-Molla stressed the importance of efforts exerted to upgrade and develop the infrastructure within the framework of a strategy to maximize its value added, including the El-Hamra Terminal, located on the Mediterranean coast west of Alexandria, and increasing its absorptive capacity and the capacity of its navigation buoys and its equipment.

As this serves the work plans and petroleum production in the Western Sahara and the plans for exploration in the Western Mediterranean Deep Water, which is an important area that has been placed on the map of oil and gas exploration in the recent period, the minister added.

During the inspection tour of the new projects carried out in the expansion areas of al-Hamra Petroleum Port, Molla said that the political leadership and the government backed studies to develop the area in a way that helps maximizing the role of the Petroleum Zone in al-Hamra Port to serve the expansion goals and population, agricultural, industrial and tourism development that the State is working to achieve through clear plans and strategies.
