Petroleum Minister Sherif Ismail said the power outages are a result of chronic problems that have been prevailing for a long time, not just recently.
“We are working on providing natural gas and diesel fuel to power stations so as to reduce the duration of outages,” the minister said at a press conference in Kafr al-Sheikh. “But citizens will still have to rationalize consumption.”
Power outages worsen in the summer months as demand for electricity increases when consumers tend to use more air conditioning and fans to stay cool.
